Community Action House serves those in need with food (pantry services and a community kitchen), clothing, case management, transitional housing, homelessness prevention, and education services (home-buyer education, financial literacy, etc.). Each year we distribute over 180,000 meals and over 250,000 pieces of clothing, and the numbers continue to increase as the need continues to grow.
Community Action House is a non-profit organization that is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty by empowering families and individuals to reach self- sufficiency here in the Holland area. Community Action House started in 1969 with the vision of serving people in our community experiencing poverty and to help people with emergency needs. We have continued to grow as the needs of the community have grown. Community Action House now has four sites in the Holland area; our main offices are located on 14th Street, a north side location on 136th Avenue, our community kitchen [located on the Western Theological Seminary campus] and our resale stores. The resale stores [Community Action House General Store] are located at 694 Michigan and 665 136th. We have become the primary agency for Thanksgiving Day food assistance in our community. Community Action House has made the holiday a much better day for over 1,000 families by providing food boxes to those expressing a need.
